📖 From my experience:
It was snowing at Charles de Gaulle when I arrived in France. Vanessa was waiting. Standing in arrivals, I made three kinds of future in my head: I will learn French. I’m going to find a job. The plane leaves at 6 — I’m flying back in two weeks. Three different futures. Three different English forms.

🎯 Language focus:
Future forms in English:

will = spontaneous decision / prediction / promise
going to = plan or intention already decided / prediction from evidence
present continuous = fixed future arrangement (diary event)

I'll help you with that. (spontaneous now) I'm going to study French. (already planned) I'm meeting the doctor on Thursday. (booked)

✅ Which future?
1. Look at those clouds — it ‘s going to rain. (evidence → prediction)
2. Phone rings. “I‘ll get it!” (spontaneous decision)
3. We‘re having dinner with Vanessa on Friday. (arrangement in diary)

Will, going to, or present continuous?

1. I’ve already bought the tickets — we ___ fly to Paris next month. are flying (fixed arrangement)

2. It’s very hot today. I ___ get some water. (you decide right now) will get (spontaneous)

3. She ___ study medicine. She applied last week. (already decided) is going to study (pre-planned)

🧒 For younger learners: Role-play: ‘Your friend calls with a problem — what will you do?’ Spontaneous future feels natural in a telephone game.

👩‍🏫 Cambridge CELTA note: Future forms is a classic B1 lesson. The key CELTA anticipated problem: students (especially French L1) often use ‘will’ for all futures. CCQ: ‘Did you decide this just now? → will. Did you plan before? → going to/present continuous.’
