Past Simple: Telling Your Story (A2)
🎙 From the classroom: I arrived in Sydney in 2005 with two suitcases and what I can only describe as horrible English. My first month, I spoke in gestures more than words. The Past Simple was my first real tool — ‘I came. I found a job. I stayed.’
💡 The Idea
We use the Past Simple for completed actions in the past. Regular verbs: add -ed. Irregular verbs: change the whole word (go→went, come→came, find→found). For negatives and questions, use did/didn’t + base form.
🗣 Example
✅ Regular: I walked to the casino. She worked every weekend.
✅ Irregular: I came to Sydney. He found a room near the station.
✅ Negative: I didn’t speak French when I arrived.
✅ Question: Did you travel alone? — Yes, I did. / No, I didn’t.
