Moving Island — In, On, At

📖 From my experience:
Réunion is an island in the Indian Ocean, on the east coast of Africa, at latitude 21°S. I’ve been here since 2023. In the south of the island. On a street I can’t always spell in French. At a desk, most days, writing lessons like this one. Three prepositions. Endless use.
🎯 Language focus:
In / On / At for place:

in = enclosed space, large areas (city, country, ocean, room)
on = surface, islands, floors, streets, transport
at = specific point, address, building, event

in Paris · in France · in the ocean · in the room
on the island · on the table · on the bus · on page 5
at the airport · at school · at 23 Baker Street · at work

My sentences:
1. I live in Réunion, on an island in the Indian Ocean.
2. I’m sitting at my desk on the first floor.
3. We landed at the airport and drove into the city.
4. Meet me at the café on Rue Victor Hugo.

In, On, or At?

1. She works ___ a hospital. at (specific point / institution)

2. The book is ___ the shelf. on (surface)

3. I was born ___ Bangladesh. in (country)

🧒 For younger learners: Use a toy town or classroom map. Ask: ‘Where is the teddy? Is it in the box, on the table, or at the door?’
👩‍🏫 Cambridge CELTA note: Prepositions of place are high-frequency A2 items. They resist rules — the best method is memorised chunks (‘at work’, ‘on the bus’, ‘in bed’) not rules alone. CCQ: ‘Is this inside something? → in. A surface or island? → on. A point? → at.’
