Modal Verbs for Advice: Should, Ought to, Had better (B1)
π From the classroom: The best advice I ever received in a kitchen: ‘You should taste before you season.’ Twenty years later I still hear it. Modal verbs of advice are the grammar of good mentors β and learners use them constantly in speaking tasks.
π‘ The Idea
Should = general advice or recommendation.
Ought to = similar to should (slightly more formal).
Had better = strong advice β often warning of consequences.
All take base verb (no -s, no to). Negative: shouldn’t / ought not to / had better not.

π¬ Advice: You should practise speaking every day.
π¬ Formal: She ought to see a doctor.
β οΈ Warning: You had better arrive on time β the manager hates lateness.
