Jobs and Workplaces β€” Essential Vocabulary (A1)

πŸŽ™ From the classroom: I’ve been a hotel manager, a sommelier, a barista, a hospitality trainer, and now a language teacher. Every job has its own English. Learning vocabulary through real jobs makes it stick β€” and gives learners something to say about themselves.

πŸ’‘ The Idea

Job vocabulary has two parts: the person (job title) and the place (workplace). Notice the pattern: teach β†’ teacher (add -er), manage β†’ manager. Some are irregular: waiter, chef, nurse. The workplace often adds where context: a teacher works in a school.

πŸ—£ Example

πŸ‘€ teacher β†’ 🏫 school  |  πŸ‘€ doctor β†’ πŸ₯ hospital
πŸ‘€ chef β†’ 🍴 restaurant  |  πŸ‘€ waiter β†’ 🍴 restaurant
πŸ‘€ manager β†’ 🏨 hotel  |  πŸ‘€ barista β†’ β˜• cafΓ©
πŸ‘€ nurse β†’ πŸ₯ hospital  |  πŸ‘€ pilot β†’ ✈️ airport

🎯 Try It Now!

1. librarian a. farm
2. farmer b. library
3. firefighter c. studio
4. artist d. fire station
