Idea

Teacher talk time (TTT) includes instructions, explanations, modelling, and filler. High TTT crowds out learner speaking practice — the goal of the lesson.

Example

Recording yourself for ten minutes reveals how much you explain versus elicit. Most teachers are surprised. Eliciting takes longer but produces more learning.

In your next lesson, choose one explanation you planned to give and convert it to an elicitation sequence instead.
