Idea — Role-play gives learners a persona and a situation, separating their language performance from their social identity. It reduces inhibition and produces target register.

Example — ‘You are returning a faulty phone. Your partner works in the store.’ The task has purpose, stakes, and a clear register.

Try — Design a role-play for a B1 class. Write both cards. What information does each learner have that the other needs?
