ELT365 · Day 186 — Designing a Discussion Task
Idea — A good discussion task has a genuine information or opinion gap — learners must talk because they don’t all hold the same answer.
Example — ‘Is social media good or bad?’ has no gap. ‘You read different articles — what does yours argue?’ creates a real reason to speak.
Try — Take a discussion topic you use. Add a real gap: give half the class one viewpoint, the other half the opposing one.
