ELT365 · Day 183 — Accuracy vs fluency — the teacher’s choice

July 4, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Accuracy activities focus on correct form; fluency activities build speed and confidence. Every speaking task sits on a spectrum. Name your aim before you design the task.

Example — Drilling “I used to + verb” = accuracy. “Tell your partner about your childhood for two minutes without stopping” = fluency.

Try — Label three speaking activities in your course book A (accuracy), F (fluency), or A+F. Were they designed with that distinction in mind?
