ELT365 · Day 174 — Using Visuals Before Listening

July 16, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Images, diagrams, or key words shown before a listening task activate prior knowledge and reduce cognitive load during the listening itself.

Example — A photograph of a factory floor before a listening about industrial disputes helps learners place the conversation immediately.

Try — Find an image that matches a listening text you use. Show it 30 seconds before playing. Ask one prediction question.
