ELT365 · Day 159 — Skimming

July 16, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Skimming is reading rapidly for the general idea — a fast tour of the text, not detailed comprehension.

Example — Running your eye over a newspaper article’s first sentence per paragraph gives you the story in 30 seconds.

Try — Give learners 45 seconds to skim a page. Ask: ‘What is this about?’ They answer in one sentence without looking again.
