Idea — Gist listening means catching the overall message — topic, mood, purpose — without every word. It is the first pass, and learners often skip it because they try to understand everything at once.

Example — Hearing a weather forecast, the gist is "rain coming"; the detail ("3pm, 12mm") comes on a second listen.

Try — Plan one gist question for your next audio: "What are they talking about, and how do they feel?" Keep it answerable in one listen.
