ELT365 · D154 — Gist listening — one question, whole text
Idea — A gist task asks one global question requiring a single listen. Its job is to orient the learner to the whole text, not chase detail.
Example — Bad gist task: ‘What are the three points mentioned?’ Better: ‘Is the speaker for or against the proposal?’ One question, one listen, one global judgment.
Try — Design a gist question for any audio you use this week. Test it on yourself: answerable in one listen, without notes? If yes, it works.
