ELT365 · D155 — Scanning for specific information

July 8, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Scanning means moving through a text at speed to locate one specific piece of data, then stopping. The learner does not process the whole text.

Example — Finding a train departure time in a timetable: the reader skips every other column and searches only for the target station and time.

Try — Give learners a text and a target fact. Time how quickly they find it without reading the whole thing. That is scanning at work.
