ELT365 · Day 194 — Pair work: setting up the information gap properly

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — For an information-gap pair task, each partner needs a different information card. The setup takes 90 seconds: distribute cards, check they do not show each other, demonstrate, set the outcome.

Example — Partner A: train schedule for Monday. Partner B: train schedule for Tuesday. Task: find a day and time you are both free to travel. Neither can see the other’s card.

Try — Set up the next pair task with physical information cards if possible. Run the four-step setup: distribute, check cards are hidden, demonstrate, set the outcome. Note how quickly learners start.
