Idea — Discussion tasks vary in cognitive and linguistic difficulty. Match the demand to the level: A2 needs concrete familiar topics with scaffolding; C1 can handle abstract contested ideas without support.

Example — A2: “What is your favourite food and why?” C1: “To what extent does diet reflect identity?” Same topic — completely different linguistic demand.

Try — Take a discussion question you use at one level. Write two versions — one two levels lower, one two levels higher. What changes in each?
