ELT365 · Day 180 — Staging a receptive skills lesson end-to-end

June 24, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A complete receptive lesson has five clear stages: lead-in, pre-teach blocking vocab, gist task, detail task, follow-up. Remove any stage and comprehension or motivation suffers.

Example — Lead-in (2 min) → pre-teach two blockers (3 min) → gist question, first listen (4 min) → detail task, second listen (6 min) → discuss with partner (5 min). Total: 20 minutes.

Try — Map your next reading lesson onto those five stages. Where does yours deviate? Which stage is longest? Is the follow-up productive or does it end with answer-checking?
