ELT365 · Day 180 — Selecting a Listening or Reading Text
Idea — Text selection criteria: appropriate length and complexity for the level, genuine interest value, enough richness for a task. The best text sparks disagreement.
Example — A text that makes learners want to argue with the author — or with each other — is more valuable than a neutral, sanitised one.
Try — Choose your next listening or reading text by asking: will students have something to say about this after? If not, find a different text.
