Idea — Prediction activates schema, reduces anxiety, and gives learners a purpose for listening. When learners predict and then check their predictions, comprehension improves even when they are wrong.
Example — Show the title of a podcast episode and a photo of the guest. Ask: what do you think they will talk about? What vocabulary might you hear? Then play.
Try — Add a one-minute prediction stage before your next listening. Elicit topic vocabulary and likely content. Notice whether it changes how engaged learners are.
