ELT365 · Day 175 — Extensive reading and graded readers

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — Research often associates large amounts of easy, enjoyable reading with vocabulary and fluency gains. Graded readers — level-matched books — let learners read fast without constant blocking.

Example — A learner reading several easy graded readers a month meets common words again and again, which is often described as strengthening recall.

Try — Find one graded reader at your class's level. Recommend it as out-of-class reading and ask only "did you enjoy it?" — not a test.
