ELT365 · Day 163 — Why learners miss words: connected speech

July 4, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — In fast speech, words link, reduce, and disappear. Learners taught vocabulary in isolation cannot recognise those words in the natural stream.

Example — “Did you eat yet?” → /dɪdjʊiːtjet/ — two words missing, two merged.

Try — Choose five common questions from your course book. Write the connected-speech form of each. Teach both versions.
