Idea — Skimming is a deliberate skill: read fast for the main point and leave the detail for later. Time pressure forces the choice; without it, most learners default to intensive reading.
Example — Give learners forty-five seconds on a short article and ask only for one sentence: “What is this about?” The limit prevents word-by-word processing.
Try — Use a 150-word text. Set a timer. Collect one-sentence summaries. Compare who answered the question versus who tried to read everything.
