ELT365 · Day 162 — Pre-Teaching Vocabulary

July 16, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Pre-teach only words that block comprehension of the task — not every unknown item. Over-teaching empties the lesson of thinking.

Example — Before a text about emigration, pre-teach ‘visa’ only if that word is central to your gist question.

Try — Identify words learners won’t know in a text. Mark only the ones needed to answer your gist question. Leave the rest.
