ELT365 · Day 162 — Lead-in activities — switching on the schema

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — A lead-in activates what learners already know about a topic before they meet the text. It primes top-down processing, generates interest, and sets context. Keep it short.

Example — Before a text about smartphones: ‘What did you use your phone for this morning? Three things. Thirty seconds.’ That is a lead-in.

Try — Write a one-minute lead-in for a text you teach. Make it personal and spoken, not written.
