ELT365 · Day 157 — Schema theory in listening

July 3, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Schema are mental frameworks built from experience. Learners with relevant cultural schema comprehend far more, even at lower language levels.

Example — A learner who has visited a doctor understands a medical dialogue more easily — even without all the vocabulary — because the script is familiar.

Try — Identify one listening text where cultural knowledge gives native speakers an unfair advantage. Adjust your lead-in to bridge that gap.
