ELT365 · Day 156 — The detail task: the second pass
Idea — After the gist task, learners go back through the text for specific information. The detail task should be answerable only by close reading or careful listening — not guessable from context.
Example — Detail task for the same podcast: ‘Name two advantages the speaker gives for remote work.’ This forces a return to the text rather than a recollection of the gist.
Try — Take a reading text you use. Write three detail questions. Test each: can a learner answer it without re-reading? If yes, it is not a detail question.
