Idea — Intensive reading requires careful, slow processing of meaning, grammar, and vocabulary. It is what most students call ‘reading’.

Example — Comprehension questions that require quoting specific lines, or tasks that ask learners to find evidence for a writer’s claim, demand intensive reading.

Try — Design three intensive reading questions for any text. Requirement: each answer must come from a specific sentence the learner can point to.
