ELT365 · D161 — Authentic Audio: Why It’s Hard and What to Do

Idea — Authentic recordings are not designed for learners — they’re fast, overlapping, and full of ellipsis. They’re also motivating and honest about what real English sounds like.

Example — A native speaker podcast at natural speed versus a coursebook dialogue at 60% speed. Both are listenable if the task is matched to the level.

Try — Find 45 seconds of authentic audio. Write one gist question and one detail question that a B1 learner could realistically answer.
