ELT365 · Day 191 — On-the-spot correction — when to jump in speaking

Idea — Correct during a speaking task only if the error blocks communication or the learner is drilling a specific target form. Otherwise, note it and address it later. Interrupting kills fluency.

Example — ‘Yesterday I go to the market’ in a fluency task: note it, don’t stop the learner. In the feedback slot: ‘I heard: I go. What is the past form?’

Try — In your next lesson, practise not correcting during one fluency task. Keep a note of errors. Address three in the feedback slot.
