Idea — Extensive reading means reading large quantities at a comfortable level for pleasure and fluency, not for study. Nation’s research suggests it is one of the most effective vocabulary acquisition routes available.

Example — A reading programme: learners choose a graded reader at or below their level, read outside class, and report back in 90 seconds. No comprehension test. The aim is volume and enjoyment.
