Idea — Intensive reading focuses on a short passage — one paragraph, one exchange — with close attention to language. It is the opposite of skimming: slow, forensic, deliberate.

Example — Learners read one paragraph of a graded short story twice, then answer questions about vocabulary, cohesion, and implied meaning. Depth, not speed, is the goal.

Try — Choose one paragraph from a text you use. Write three language-focused questions: What does ‘it’ refer to? What does ‘moreover’ signal? What tense is used and why?
