ELT365 · Day 163 — Predicting from context

June 23, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Good listeners and readers guess what is coming next from genre, topic and grammar. Teaching prediction explicitly turns understanding from reactive decoding into active anticipation.

Example — After "Ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your…", learners can predict "seatbelts" before hearing it.

Try — Pause an audio mid-sentence and ask: what word comes next? Then play on to confirm. Repeat once.
