ELT365 · Day 158 — Designing a Gist Listening Task
Idea — A good gist task is one question, answerable after a single listen, that requires global understanding — not scanning for a specific detail.
Example — ‘What does the speaker want the listener to do?’ is gist. ‘What time does the meeting start?’ is a detail task in disguise.
Try — Write two gist tasks for any audio you use regularly. Test yourself: can each be answered without catching every word?
