Idea — Receptive skills are listening and reading — skills where meaning flows in. You decode; you don’t produce. Both are active, not passive: the brain selects, predicts, and infers throughout.

Example — A student reads a job ad, skipping words they don’t need, zeroing in on salary and hours. That selective attention is a receptive skill in use.

Try — Ask learners to listen to 30 seconds of radio news and write three words they catch. Discuss what helped them hear those words.
