ELT365 · Day 152 — What Is a Receptive Skill?

July 15, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Receptive skills are reading and listening — language comes in. Learners decode meaning without producing output, but active processing is still required.

Example — A learner reads a news headline and extracts the main event without speaking or writing a word.

Try — Give a learner a short text. Ask one question they answer by nodding or pointing — no spoken response needed.
