Describing Places — Where I Live
⏱ 5 minutes
Vocabulary + Speaking
Saint-Pierre is a coastal city in the south of La Réunion — a French island in the Indian Ocean. When I describe it to people in Europe, I say: “Imagine a tropical island with French bakeries and Indian temples on the same street.” Describing a place well requires specific vocabulary. Here’s how to do it.
🎯 Language Focus
| Location phrases | in the north/south/east/west of… / on the coast / in the mountains |
| Size/type | a big city / a small town / a coastal village / a historic city centre |
| Adjectives | vibrant, peaceful, crowded, quiet, historic, modern, multicultural |
| There is/are | There is a beach. / There are many restaurants. |
