Comparatives and Superlatives
Compare two things or find the extreme — the essential tools of everyday English
From Sourov’s world: The busiest shift I ever worked was New Year’s Eve at the Star Casino in Sydney. It was busier than any regular Saturday night — more chaotic, louder, more demanding, and more exhilarating all at once. We served more guests, poured more glasses of sparkling wine, and resolved more last-minute problems than in any other single night of the year. That shift was the ultimate test of everything I had learned in hospitality. To tell that story properly, you need comparatives and superlatives.
📚 Language Focus
Comparative — comparing two things: adjective + -er or more + adjective (+ than)
Superlative — identifying the extreme in a group: the + adjective + -est or the most + adjective

Spelling note: Short adjectives ending in vowel + consonant double the final consonant: big → bigger, hot → hotter.
CCQs: Are we comparing exactly two things? — Comparative. Are we choosing the one extreme from a whole group? — Superlative. Is the adjective long (3+ syllables)? — Use more/most.
