Colours are some of the first words we learn — and some of the most useful. But English has lots more than just ‘red’ and ‘blue’. Let’s explore!

When I take photos with my Nikon, I notice colours that don’t have simple names. The sky in Réunion at sunset is not just orange — it is amber. The sea is not just blue — it is turquoise near the shore and cobalt further out. Precise words make precise pictures.
