Can and Can’t — Talking About Abilities | English for Kids A2

Use “can” and “can’t” to talk about abilities!

Form: can + verb (no -s, no -ing!)

  • “I can swim.” ✓
  • “She can’t drive.” (she is 8 years old!)
  • Can you play the guitar?” → “Yes, I can!” / “No, I can’t.”

Your abilities

Write 3 things you CAN do and 1 thing you CAN’T do (yet!).

Talk to a partner

“Can you ___?” — and answer honestly.

Watch out!

“She cans swim” ✗ → “She can swim” ✓
