YL · Parents as Partners in Young Learner Learning
Idea — Young learners spend more waking hours with their families than in class. Parent involvement — even minimal — multiplies the contact time available for English. The teacher’s job is to make it easy.
Example — A weekly take-home card with three phrases for the parent to say with the child at bedtime (‘What colour is this?’, ‘Say it in English.’) requires ten seconds of teacher preparation and creates five minutes of daily practice.
Try — Design one take-home activity for this week: a game, a song, or three questions for parents to ask. Write it on a card, not a document. It must be usable with no instructions.
