Idea — Match the task to the text type. A recipe calls for scanning and order. A novel calls for gist and pleasure. An exam question calls for intensive reading. Task mismatch wastes learning time.

Example — Setting gist questions on a classified ad is absurd — the whole text is six lines. Better: scanning for one fact. Match matters.

Try — List three texts you use in class. For each: what is the most natural real-world reading purpose? Is your classroom task aligned with it?
