ELT365 · Day 170 — Note-Taking During Listening: A Trainable Skill

Idea — Note-taking while listening is a trainable skill. Learners need a clear purpose and a limited number of items to catch; otherwise they try to write everything and lose the thread.

Example — A short talk on three advantages. Learners are told to write only the three headings. They listen once and compare lists.

Try — Play a 60-second clip. Ask for exactly three words or numbers. Collect the notes. Discuss what was left out and why that was useful.
