‘I arrived in 2005.’ ‘I work on Sundays.’ ‘The restaurant opens at noon.’ These three prepositions — at, on, in — govern time expressions in English. Bengali doesn’t use prepositions the same way. French is different too. This is one of the first things every learner gets wrong and keeps getting wrong until they learn the rule properly.

📚 The Rule

Preposition	Use for	Examples
at	precise times; meal times; certain fixed expressions	at 3pm · at noon · at night · at the weekend (British)
on	days; dates; specific days of holidays	on Monday · on 14 June · on Christmas Day
in	longer periods: months, years, seasons, parts of day (not night)	in June · in 2005 · in winter · in the morning

I was born in 1986 — the year, the longer period.
My daughter was born on a Sunday — a specific day.
The hospital called me at 4am — a precise time.
