5-Min Pro · Error Correction: Deciding When and How
The idea — Not all errors need correcting immediately. Interrupting a fluency task for accuracy correction kills communication. Correcting everything demoralises. The question is always: what is this task for?
In practice — During fluency tasks, note errors. During accuracy tasks, correct in the moment. After a fluency task, use delayed feedback: write three errors on the board (anonymised) and elicit corrections from the class.
One-minute task — In your next lesson, decide before each task: accuracy or fluency? Write it on your plan. That decision tells you exactly how to correct — or whether to hold back.
