5-Min Pro · Managing a Mixed-Ability Class
The idea — In a mixed-ability class, the same task reaches different learners differently. Rather than designing three separate tasks, design one task with variable challenge — open the top and support the bottom.
In practice — One discussion question can be answered in one sentence (A2) or a complex paragraph (B2). One gap-fill can have the word bank removed for stronger learners. Same task, different challenge.
One-minute task — Take one task from your next lesson. Write one extension for stronger learners and one scaffold for weaker ones. No extra preparation beyond two sentences.
