ELT365 · Day 233 — Student Talk Time — Building It Up
Idea
Student talk time (STT) is not just speaking-skill practice — it is thinking time in the target language. Every minute of productive STT is a minute of acquisition.
Example
A five-minute pair discussion, well-monitored and feedback-given, produces more usable output than a ten-minute teacher explanation.
Try
Calculate the STT in your next lesson plan. If it is less than 50% of lesson time, add one more speaking stage.
