ELT365 · Day 203 — Teaching emails and messages — real-world writing tasks

June 30, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Emails and messages are among the most frequent writing tasks learners face outside class. Teach them as genres with conventions: subject line, greeting, purpose, action, close.

Example — Formal request email: subject line → ‘Dear X,’ → one sentence of context → the request → ‘I look forward to…’ → ‘Yours sincerely,’

Try — Give learners an email-writing task with a real purpose: request a meeting, complain about an order, confirm an appointment.
