ELT365 · Day 198 — Process writing vs product writing

June 25, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Process writing focuses on how a text is built — planning, drafting, revising. It mirrors how real writers work and raises awareness of writing as a recursive skill.

Example — Product: ‘Write a formal email.’ (submit and mark) Process: plan → draft → peer feedback → revise → submit. The second teaches writing; the first mainly tests it.

Try — Take one writing task from your coursebook. Add a planning stage (5 min) and a peer-review stage (5 min) before learners write their final version. Compare the quality of the finished texts.
