ELT365 · Day 193 — Talking time: theirs, not yours

June 22, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Learners improve speaking by speaking, yet teachers often fill the air. Cutting teacher talking time and raising student talking time — through pair and group work — is one of the simplest fluency boosts.

Example — Setting a pair task instead of fronting a discussion can multiply how much each learner actually speaks.

Try — Record or self-monitor five minutes of your teaching. Estimate the teacher-to-student talk ratio, then plan one swap toward learners.
