ELT365 · Day 189 — Role play — setting it up so learners don’t freeze

June 30, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Role plays fail when learners don’t know the situation, their role, or the goal. Give a clear card: who you are, what you want, what you can’t accept. Rehearse briefly first.

Example — Card A: ‘You are a hotel guest. Your room has no hot water and the wifi is broken. You want a refund or a room change.’

Try — Write one role-play card for your next lesson. Include role, situation, and goal. Test it with a colleague before the class.
